Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about preparing meals, checking in, pet policies, and exploring our farm and surrounding forest lands.

What should we know about food, cooking, and dining out?

Because we do not serve breakfast, guests should plan to bring their own groceries and food to prepare in the fully equipped kitchen. We recommend stocking up in Staunton, Covington, Franklin,Wv or Elkins, WV on your drive in. Nearby Monterey has a General Dollar store, local convenience stores operate during daylight hours, and there are a couple of local restaurants in the area (be sure to check local operating hours in advance).

What are your check-in and checkout times?

Check-in begins at 4:00 PM and checkout is at 11:00 AM, unless prior arrangements have been made with us directly.

Is there cell service or Wi-Fi on the property?

There is no cellular phone service in our secluded valley; however, complimentary Wi-Fi is provided throughout the farmhouse and immediate surrounding yard area so you can stay connected as needed.

What is your pet policy?

We welcome pets with a fee of $20 per pet, with a maximum limit of two pets. Please note that there are no fenced-in outdoor yards, so pets should be monitored when enjoying the farm grounds.

How do we access walking trails and the national forest?

We provide a simple trail map inside the farmhouse outlining paths across our 300-acre property. Our eastern boundary directly joins thousands of acres of the George Washington National Forest. Documented trail systems, state recreation property, Hayfield State Park, and the historic McDowell Battlefield are just a short drive away. Please consult the US Forest Service and Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources for public land regulations.

Can we go fishing during our visit?

Trout fishing is available nearby in local streams, and fishing on the farm property is permitted with prior owner permission. All guests must hold appropriate Virginia fishing licenses and abide by state wildlife regulations.

What outdoor amenities and linens are included?

All bed linens, bath towels, and essential home amenities are provided for your stay. Outdoors, you can enjoy a gas grill and an open fire pit with complimentary firewood provided for evening bonfires.

What personal items should we pack?

Mountain weather can change quickly, so we recommend packing layered clothing such as sweatshirts and jackets, along with sturdy hiking boots, outdoor gear, and your fishing tackle if you plan on casting a line.
